Agniveer GD PFT & PMT: Run, Beam and Height Marks

Read in: Englishहिंदी

The Agniveer GD rally has two parts: the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) — the run and the beam — and the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) — height, chest and the medical. Unlike some other recruitments, where the physical stage is purely pass/fail, your final merit is built from your CEE score and your physical test score together: the run and beam marks here count toward your rank, not just your eligibility.

The 1.6 km run

GroupTimeMarks
Iup to 5:3060
II5:31 to 5:4548
III5:46 to 6:0036
IV6:01 to 6:1524

Every 15 seconds between groups costs 12 marks — a steep gradient, so a few seconds of pace training is worth more here than almost anywhere else in the recruitment. Finish slower than 6:15 and you are outside the scored bands.

Beam (pull-ups)

Pull-upsMarks
10 or more40
933
827
721
616

Ten pull-ups earns the full 40; the table’s lowest scoring rung is six, for 16.

Qualify-only events

Two more PFT events carry no marks of their own — you must clear them, but they do not add to your score:

  • 9-foot ditch: cleared in one leap
  • Zig-zag balance: completed without falling

Height and chest (PMT)

Physical measurement standards vary by recruiting region and category, so there is no single number that applies everywhere. One sourced example, for Southern Plains General Duty:

MeasurementStandard
Height166 cm
Chest77 cm, with 5 cm of expansion

Your own region’s standard may differ — the notification for your Army Recruiting Office (ARO) has the figure that applies to you.

Medical

The notification advises candidates to get themselves checked before applying, particularly for flat feet, poor vision and visible deformities — issues that are cheaper to find out about at home than at the rally.

Training for it

The 1.6 km run rewards pace, not distance: interval work (such as 400 m repeats faster than your target pace, with short recoveries) trains the system a five-and-a-half-minute effort actually needs, better than long slow runs alone. For the beam, negative pull-ups and assisted reps build strength faster than repeatedly failing at full reps. The Agniveer GD app’s run tracker scores your 1.6 km time against the bands above as you train.

Run timings, marks and measurement standards can all be revised before a rally. Confirm the current ones on joinindianarmy.nic.in, and see the Agniveer GD exam pattern and syllabus for the written half of the recruitment.

FAQ

How many marks is the Agniveer GD 1.6 km run worth?

Up to 60 marks, for finishing in 5 minutes 30 seconds or under (Group I). Group II (5:31–5:45) is worth 48, Group III (5:46–6:00) 36, and Group IV (6:01–6:15) 24.

What happens if I run slower than 6:15?

You are outside the scored groups for the 1.6 km run under the RY2027 notification. Confirm the current cut-off on your own notification, since the Army can revise run timings and marks before a rally.

Are the 9-foot ditch and zig-zag balance scored?

No. Both are qualify-only: you need to clear them, but they carry no marks of their own toward your merit.

Does the height and chest standard apply everywhere in India?

No, it varies by recruiting region and category. The figures here are for Southern Plains General Duty; your own ARO's notification has the standard for your region.
